Get Involved

  • With six productions each season, there are plenty of opportunities to perform on stage whether you are just starting out or a seasoned pro!

Taking part in a performance is demanding on time with lines to learn, characters to develop and rehearsals to attend, but the reward of being part of production and bringing live local theatre to life is truly worth the effort.

Look out on our social media pages and on here for play readings where you get the chance to explore the play, meet the director and potentially audition for a part.

And if you don’t feel like you are quite ready to be on stage, there are our free workshops where you build your confidence and skills!

  • The prompter (sometimes prompt) in a theatre is a person who prompts or cues actors when they forget their lines… which hopefully won’t happen!

If it does, then the prompt has to be ready with the right line to keep a performance flowing and moving forward.

    Could this be you?

Prompts are also present for several weeks of rehearsals to assist our actors once they have “books down” and also become familiar with the flow of a play… to understand when a pause is just a pause and not a forgotten line!

  • Directors have the vision for a production, what they expect from their performers and how a play is staged.

We have some very experienced Directors at Preston Drama Club and if you’ve never directed before, there are opportunities to shadow one of them and learn new skills along the way.

  • Our shows can’t go on without our fabulous members who help front of house!

Every one of our performances needs a House Manager and Steward, Bar Staff, Box Office Staff and of course the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and hot drinks for the interval.

Join our team of friendly volunteers, have fun and make new friends along the way.

  • No production is complete without lighting and sound effects to add to the atmosphere and drama of a performance.

Working with the Director, you will be following the script and the queues of the performers to add all the effects required.

If you’ve never done lighting and sound before but would like to learn, then get in touch and let us know.

  • So much goes on behind the scenes before and during a performance!

Props - Do you have a good eye for a bargain or would love to be on the lookout for the right props in our prop store, charity shops or online for each production? Are you an organised person who could have the props ready as and when needed during each performance? If so, then give props a go!

Costumes - It’s amazing how our characters and performances truly come in to their own at dress rehearsals when costumes are used for the first time! In a similar way to props, if you have a good eye for the right costume and can sniff out a bargain then we would love your help.

  • Did you know that we have our set building workshop?

If DIY is more your thing then set building is for you!

We meet at Preston Playhouse on Wednesdays to build the fabulous stage sets for each of our performances.

  • Ever wondered who is responsible for liaising with Front of House to start a performance, getting our actors on to stage at the right time and raising the curtain?

Well, that’s the job of our Stage Manager! Once rehearsals are completed, the Director hands over the reins to the Stage Manager to ensure that everything runs smoothly during each performance.

There are so many ways to get involved at PDC; from acting to set building, front of house to directing… there’s something for everyone.

If you want to learn more about stagecraft or want to improve your skills, then our free Theatre Workshops are just the ticket!
